The Secret of the Italian Facade
The topic of this graduation studio was focused on the Italian city of Napoli. The collective research of the atelier shows that Napoli has a lot more history hidden underneath the surface than meets the eye. This thesis is explicitly focused on the relations between the exterior and interior with the facade as a mediating element. The dense city’s fabric raises the question of what is happening behind the facade. The challenge of the design experiment was to find a way to create a design that respects the broad history of the place, strengthens the external relations and public places and makes the right transition between exterior and interior possible.
