The graduation studio Madrid: A great European city aims to understand the present-day urban and architectural condition of Madrid. Through a thorough analysis of the historical development of the shape of the city, the morphology, and the buildings in it, typologies, we explore the city as we find her today. The results of our studio’s exploration are collected in this atlas, titled Madrid: Topography of Powers. It provides an overview of the eras of the Madrilenian history of urban development and, by doing so, aims to canalize the complexity of the city. In this way, we hope to provide insight in the complex relation between Madrid’s historical development and the powers that drove its transformations.
