The morphological history of Milan – from its genesis to its present-day situation – is presented here in twelve carefully determined stages. Each stage represents morphological transformations influenced by either a change of political power, the effects of a historic event (e.g. the WWII), an economic revolution, and so on. In this, the darker coloured buildings indicate already existent structures. Grey indicates urban expansions in the concerned period.
